Client Profile: Zaituni Msagala
2021 Client at the Tandale Center in Dar es Salaam
43-year-old Zaituni Msagala is a single mother who relocated to Tandale county in 2021 after she was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. When she informed her husband, he not only left her, but she was rejected and stigmatized by her close family members. It was after she relocated that she joined the Untold program in Tandale run in partnership with Tanzania Assemblies of God Church.
At the time, she was struggling with tuberculosis and suffered from frequent high fever and fungal infections. Due to her financial situation, she lacked nutritional support. Through the program, she received 70,000 TSh ($30) to pay for her treatment. She also received a boost to her health insurance worth 40,000 TSh ($17).
“The many infections and struggles weighed on me, but since I joined the program, I have found new hope to move forward and not give up. I have felt valued each and every time the staff came to my home, during one-on-one counseling and the group therapy sessions. I do not feel alone anymore, I know there are people who love and care for me regardless of my condition,” Zaituni said.
Zaituni has enjoyed learning how to make bar soaps, mats, liquid soap, and shampoo. She took up the liquid soap and batik skills, and after a lot of practice, she began selling them and now earns a profit.
“I am determined to take advantage of these lessons and learn all I can so that I add them to the number of things I have already started selling. Thank you, Untold, for helping me take good care of my children, through the skills and also the food support. I am happy.”
Like Psalms 92:4, God’s mighty deeds in Zaituni’s life make us glad and because of this, we sing for Joy.
