Client Profile: Jane Wanjiku
2021 Client at the Mukuru Kwa Njenga Center in Nairobi South
Jane Wanjiku, a 52-year-old from the Mukuru Kwa Njenga area in Nairobi, counts it all as joy when she testifies that healing has been her portion since joining Untold.
While pregnant in 2008, Jane was counseled and tested for HIV/AIDS; she was positive. She recalls a sense of uselessness and despair weighing on her, especially after her husband tested negative. In addition, the nurses at the hospital did not offer guidance in preventing transmission to her child. As a result, her son tested positive for HIV six weeks after birth.
“The only thing that motivated me during that challenging season was that my husband stood by my side. He consistently encouraged me and helped me accept my status. We agreed to keep our status a secret from the family, but my husband vowed never to leave my side,” Jane recalls.
In 2021, Jane developed ulcers due to stress. At the time, Jane and her husband were unemployed, and her son did not join high school due to financial challenges. When she enrolled in the Untold program in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, she shared her challenges with the center staff. Not only did they counsel her, but they also spent time praying with and for her family. “I testify that it is only by God’s grace that my son was able to join high school,” Jane added.
In addition to the counseling and spiritual support that she has received, Jane received financial support for her medical needs when she fell ill and was in constant pain. The doctors needed to test her stool, but she had no money. Through support from Untold, she paid for her stool test which cost Ksh 700 ($6.20). The tests were positive for H pylori. Furthermore, she received financial support worth Ksh 3,000 ($26.58) for her medications.
“I used to go to the chemists and buy medication to relieve the pain, but most days I was suffering. This time, however, I have been treated for sure. Today I testify that I am healthy. I am so grateful for Untold and its donors. I pray that God will bless them, and may they never lack.”
Jane is a testament to Jeremiah 30:17; God will restore us to health and heal us.
